We stayed in Amsterdam for a few days with our 15 year old grandson, and had booked Peter in advance primarily for a trip to the bulb fields as we didn’t want to take a bus tour and be restricted to their times.
It was the best decision we’ve ever made.
Peter picked us up at our hotel and took us to the bulb fields and the Keukenhof gardens. He showed us round the gardens, and rather than let us take refreshment in the very crowded and busy restaurant there, he took us to a nearby castle garden where we had drinks and snacks in peace and quiet.
Peter was then happy to take us wherever we wanted to go, and we opted for a trip to Zaanse Schans via ferry, where we visited working windmills, and saw houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. This was a really interesting place, that we would never have found ourselves. Forget the touristy windmill at Keukenhof – we were able to go inside working windmills and see how they milled linseed and sawed wood. All our entrance tickets were included in the tour. Following this, we returned to Amsterdam, where Peter took us to a cafe that he promised had the best apple pie in Amsterdam. It didn’t disappoint!
He then took us on a short walking tour, ending at the Hilton Sky bar, with amazing views over Amsterdam. Peter would have been happy to escort us back to our hotel, but we were happy to take a tram.
We enjoyed Peter’s company very much and learned a lot. It was a great day out. We would have no hesitation in recommending Peter as a private guide.
